Dear Joan, I wished I had these ‘instructions’ while I did my zen-practice, years ago. You are so crystal clear, there are no questions after reading your text. And it doesn’t sound difficult at all, it’s playful and I can ‘do’ it everywhere even in the queue for the checkout! Thank you and let the light of Easter shine in your day.
I absolutely love this…it just landed in the IS-ness of the moment I’m in…thank you Joan…I so love and appreciate you 🙏🙂 so grateful for your presence in the world ❤️
"Because we live so much in the world of thinking and conceptualizing, taking in so much verbal and written information, it can be very liberating to consciously take time whenever it invites you to shift attention to the sensory realm instead." I spend so much time reading online, following too many people, too many words. Yesterday, I walked in the sun with my husband for an hour. We saw a lovely Irish movie in the afternoon (That They May Face the Rising Sun). These things reminded me that there is a world of quiet joy where people know how to show up for each other. The undivided self is equal to the moment it's in.
Ajahn Chah told Jack Kornfield that villagers demeaned themselves when they came to him asking for amulets and talismans and then said that westerners did the same. He said “there is within you, one who knows.” I assumed that one who knows was pointing to some transcendental truth rather than an immediate sense of present experience. I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to think my way out of emotional discomfort that naturally passes quickly.
Sam Harris says a good teacher points things out directly. You did that here and I can’t even imagine the lifetime it took to point out how to be here now so clearly🥹 Thank you so much💚
Nicely put...and as Peter says in his comment, you distil what for me is the essence of zen. And though I think practicing awareness can maybe be useful in loading the dice, as can specific events or words from another, ultimately I think this is about a particular perspective...down to neural pathways that either are active in a given moment or they aren't - and when they are...amazing! When they're not...nothing will "make it so". I wish you well mate.
🙏♥️
Thanks, Joan. This hit the spot for me.
Very clear and helpful. Thanks!

Powerful! This may be my favorite article of yours so far. It’s just so so so….. here intimately with all of this.
I dare not say more. Thank you!🙏
